About Me

Allison McKinney-Thompson, LCPC

She/Her/Hers

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor based in Missoula, MT. I graduated from the University of Montana in 2020 from the Master’s of Counselor Education program. I practice therapy from a person-centered and anti-oppressive orientation. To me, this means that I do my best to meet you with empathy and genuine regard, while allowing you to be the leader of your own therapy. I strive to provide a compassionate and safe atmosphere. I utilize active listening and reflecting to help you fully understand your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I support you through your personal growth process. I aim to help you develop a healthy sense of self, explore your emotions, and find meaning.

I do not believe that we can separate our mental health from the structural and systemic inequalities that exist in our world and our location within these systems. Regardless of race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic location, or ability - we are impacted by our individual identities. It is important to me to remain reflective on how these create imbalanced power structures within the world and in my work as a therapist. Creating a safe space for you to share your stories is a responsibility I take very seriously. I welcome discussion of how your personal identities impact you and your mental health.
